The place that has intrigued me and pulls not only my attention, but also others in the University is known as the Reese Library. It is located somewhat in the middle of the Jaguar Student Activity center. Reese Library came about when Kathrine Reese Pamplin and her husband donated $250,000 to the University System of Georgia Board of Regents in 1972 (about). The amount they donate help speed up the process for the funds to build the building to be approve of, considering it was $2.5 million for the new library to be built (About). The library was named in honor of Dr. and Mrs. John Thomas Reese, who are the parents of Mrs. Pamplin (About). There is a lot of history in this campus because the civil war passed through Augusta, Georgia; in honor of this the school has many monuments on campus to show what has happened in certain areas. This shows that the Reese Library was built on a historical land and carries the history of the war along with it in the building. The Reese Library is a place built for students to go and do work for classes. As I walk through the doors of the Reese Library, I notice how crowded the library is with students on computers, on the couches doing work, or relaxing in one of the couches. The place is very warm with an unusual smell to it. It looks like a very inviting and comfortable space to do work and hang out in. It is filled with warm neutral colors of dark brown, olive green, dark orange, and beige to make it feel relaxing. There are couches and seats arranged nicely in circles or off in a corner that makes people want to sit in them, computers arranged in a circle with divider between each one to allow privacy, and books stacked neatly on shelves. This area was made for students to occupy and to allow an area for them to finish work. Each floor of the library is fill with desk, couches, computer, and books for students to go and do their work. Each floor named differently to let students know what is acceptable on that floor such as the first floor is known as the computer area where people can be kind of loud, the second floor is known as the quiet zone, and the third floor is known as the silent study zone. As Rich stated “Recognizing our location, having to name the ground we’re coming from, the conditions we have taken for granted” (71). Rich is stating that we take for granted the places we come from and are living on because we do not think about the different events that has happened there such as the civil war.
