Reflection Chapters 13-18 This was quite the eventful section! At the beginning, it was obvious that Janie was trying to keep her guard up and listen to her friend in regards to her money when marrying Tea Cake. Nonetheless, he still found it and spent almost all of it. At this point, I thought for sure everyone was right about Tea Cake. After he gambled and won back the money, I found it slightly charming that he assured her they were going to live off of his money alone. Although I do not think he needed to lose the money or risk his life gambling, I thought it showed a better character when he insisted that he did not want her money. In this chapter, I was slightly confused when I read the line, “It was hard to love a woman who made you feel wishful” (p. 116). I don’t understand what this meant because in my opinion, wishful makes me think it would make you want to love someone. …show more content…

I am glad Tea Cake cared but maybe beating up the brother would have been a more direct hint to stay away from his wife. Or possibly just having an adult conversation. Maybe even just locking the door so they could not come in. Anything but beating his wife. What was just as bad was that everyone praised him and were jealous of their relationship. In my opinion, it was a disgrace, not something to be proud of. Mrs. Turner was also a rare kind. I am not sure how I feel about her based on her beliefs and her actions. Based on her actions, I found it extremely odd how she insisted to set her brother up with a married woman in their own house. As if that was not bound to go wrong. But her belief on getting to heaven was also something I had not heard of. I felt sorry for her because she felt she needed to worship white people in order to get to heaven. That seems like an awful way to live. Was this a common belief? I have never heard of this idea prior to reading this book, so I was curious about
