Music is a prime component of each person’s identity and even how one could associate their socio-economic status. For instance, Nadine Hubbs explains how music is “often viewed as highly personal and subject, and that taste is a crucial marker and determinant of one’s place in society.” Accordingly, if music is such an essential characteristic in which we all identify ourselves with then it is safe to assume that music played in public areas would cause us all to have different reactions.
Correspondingly, we may not always be aware of it, but music is played in almost every supermarket, café, or any business establishment we visit. Whether we notice it or not, music can play a magnificent role in how we may react to each store and even possibly …show more content…

Similar to ACME, Rise Up had a considerably diverse set of genres of music, with songs ranging from Alternative Rock, Indie and Pop. Unlike ACME, the volume of the music was rather loud, which to me, created a more engaging atmosphere. I found myself truly listening to the music without getting distracted or having my attention wander. I also noticed that the music increased the amount of time I spent at the coffee shop as well. The music appeared to have the same impact and effect on the other customers, as each of them stayed for at least fifteen to twenty minutes. As a result of the enjoyable music, the coffee shop acquires an aesthetic appeal that draws in each customer. This common idea which numerous of companies and businesses to use to attract customers is conjointly expressed in John Lang’s article “Music and Consumer Experience.” In the article Lang illustrates that “music provides a set of aesthetic and commercial cues, beyond visual and other sensory practices, for consumers and corporations.” Lang continues by saying that “music is intricately intertwined with commercial symbols, practices and environments,” which demonstrates that businesses understand that consumers are besieged by music, so businesses utilize music to attract and manipulate consumers.
