At first I wasn't sure what to expect of Claire as a writer. Her mother had shown me a few samples of what they hang on the refrigerator of her school work, but I feel as if that wasn't enough at first. Many of our sessions were based around Claire’s writing skills, honing in on what I first observed that she was capable of. Conferring with Claire helped myself learn about her as a writer, and taught me as well how to talk with a student and not at them, either while conferring or just talking one-on-one (Anderson, 2000).
