The Unjust Beast Injustice can occur in varying forms, depending on circumstance. Lord of the Flies by William Golding explores this topic, when a group of school-aged boys get stranded on an island with no adult supervision. When the younger boys (littluns) start talking about a beast that attacks at night, it leads the older boys (bigguns) on a search through the jungle to hunt the beast down. Their pursuit to find the beast leads to the bigguns running into conflicts with both themselves and this supposed beast. Through the characters of Ralph and Jack, Golding suggests that self respect can lead an individual to making just or unjust decisions.
How have I improved as a writer? I am thinking about my action plan as a writer have I improved, have I met the goals I set out to achieve on my first day of class, and what have I learned in this class? I will go over my time in this class and review the various topics I mentioned above and more. Looking back over my time in this class I will critique and praise myself. How I felt about writing when I first started this class compared to how I feel now, I would have to say I am more comfortable with writing.
I came into my first college writing class feeling prepared thanks to you and your investment in me as a student in your AP Lang class. I developed as a writer more than I ever had in your class, and it definitely helped me in my college writing class this semester. I already knew how important it was to revise and continuously critically think about my writing, as well as the importance of multiple drafts and peer review. My English 110 class this semester was very similar to yours because we also did multiple drafts where I could revise my paper as many times as needed. The big difference was that the focus was on different genres and how to appeal to those, which was something new compared to my high school English courses.
This fall term I decided to take Dr. Jeff Harrison 's writing 121 class since it was required for my degree. Little did I know that it would drastically improve my righting and thought process. In Harrison 's writing class I have learned or improved my critical thinking, writing and reading skills. Well as enhancing my cultural awareness by helping me dig deeper into verbalizing my thoughts.
In the first two days of Honors English II, you taught me a lot about writing that impacted the way I wrote on the second day writing assignment, from the first day writing assignment. The first writing assignment was less of what is expected for an Honors English class due to lack of originality, organization, and a good MLA format. I then took what you taught me and applied it to my second writing assignment. First of all, the sentences were too bland and unoriginal in my first assignment. It contained bland sentences such as,"This summer I read many books.
Written Responses This is my first summer participating in the UBMSC Summer Residential program at UNLV. Five ways the SRP experience could improve my life personally and academically: I would receive more Spanish speaking experience. I would receive better understanding of Algebra and an introduction to precalculus.
Handwriting was one of my first struggles, in the beginning of grade school. It was always something that was very hard for me and I remember that. I had trouble on how to to write the letters and when I did the letters they ended up being enormous and all messy. I could never get my handwriting neat like the teacher would have.
When reflecting on this school year I see how much I have improved. From my first writing to now. I see that now I write more fluently. I have learned how to write in MLA and APA formatting. I have learned how to delegate myself from distractions when writing.
I began Writing 101 feeling extreme stressed and apprehensive about my writing abilities. Being raised in Hawaii, learning proper English was not the most important thing in school, adding to the stress was the many years on not attending school and my weak spelling abilities. Taking this course help bring my confidence back that I can complete a paper and express a thought to a person or group. I took Writing 101 for two reasons, the first reason is simple, it is a required course. The second reason and the main reason is after being in the military/corporate world of working, I have found that being able to submit a report or project in writing helps move your career along.
Tawney Nodland – As I look back over the past semester of English Composition, I realize that I have grown as a writer. Not onlyhas my understanding of the writing process changed, my whole attitude towards composition has too. This composition course has made a significant impact on my learning experience and has given me tools to take forward into my future educational and professional goals. Throughout this course, I have discovered things about myself as a writer and know some of my strengths and weaknesses. I now feel more prepared for future writing assignments, whether for work or for school.
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
I have always found writing hard but now I enjoy it more. I 'm not going to lie and say that it 's easy for me because it 's hard. I get lost with my thoughts a lot. What I say sounds way better then when I put it down on a paper. I have been wanting to write a small book of something.
My sentences still read very choppy although they are much better than when I started this class. This can be ironed out of my writing by spending more time proofreading my papers. The sentence fluency I think will come the more I write, even by my last paper I feel it has improved drastically compared to my first paper. I think I could have been even more successful in this class if I had spent more time out of class proofreading and using my time better while I was in class. I feel that I have grown more than I originally planned on because this class involved us more in the first quarter.
There are other areas in my writing that I have improved on. I have improved on my grammar, verb constructions, use of verb tenses and organizational skills to make my writing flow better when reading. My overall progress in completing this ten weeks course was wonderful. Every steps and skills I learned in this English class will help me to improve on my writing skills in my other classes and will also help me in my future
Writing project 3 has shown me the importance of writing something that is of interest for you, an issue that you are passionate about. I think that I have started to get somewhat better at the structuring of my writing and using outlines before I jump into a draft. I am no longer as scared and hesitant to write, as I was the first writing project. I think a good goal that I accomplished from this project was using diverse sources in my writing. I was able to utilize a magazine post, newspaper article and research journals to form my argument and provide support.
