Education is the key to success in life. This program will help me to achieve my long-term goals by strengthen my academic skills and exposing me to the college environment. The

The Youth and School Resource Officers School Resource Officers (SROs) are sworn police officers trained to serve and protect the community. As such, they have a duty to serve and protect schools within their jurisdiction as part of a total community-policing strategy. Research has shown that the youth with healthy relationships and “protective factors” have a reduced chance of becoming involved in serious delinquency. These “protective factors” include adding school resource officers to school campuses with the growing number of at-risk students. It is important for schools to have SROs because the SRO’s role on school campus is keeping students safe and supporting the education mission not only as law enforcement officer but also as a teacher and a counselor.
Resident Assistants serve many purposes and play many roles in the community. They help to build and promote a supportive and active community within their residence hall and across the campus, and offer support and guidance to their residents. This aids in making Geneseo feel more like home and a community rather than simply a school. RAs enforce Geneseo and Department of Student Life rules, while also being a more easily accessible and less intimidating resource to other students in need of help. I want to be an RA so that I can become more involved in the Geneseo community in a positive way, by helping and representing other students.
Completing the preparation for my academic advisor visit did not help me in organization, planning, and identifying questions. Although I went to see my academic advisor three weeks before my registration began, my academic advisor still had a long line of people to see her. When I went in to see my academic advisor, she was incredibly quick and seemed busy. She already had my transcript from, my current schedule on screen, and had the nutrition and dietetics curriculum on her desk. She just simply picked a few classes I can take next semester, and then wrote them down on a piece of paper and that was it.
In my current role as Probation and Parole Officer, I have learned and gain a lot of experience with the Delaware Court System. While supervising individuals on level 2 Domestic Violence, level 2 interstate and current case load standard level 2 and pre-trial supervision, I have gain a lot of experience with the different court systems which entails, Family Court, Court of Common Pleas, Superior Court, and Justice of Peace. When the court orders an individual to serve Probation, It is my duties to make sure I’m enforcing the terms and conditions of supervision and keeping the Court informed of the individuals compliance or noncompliance. The courts have various programs and resources they can implement to not only help the individual but also the probation officer with their recommendation. The court can request that an individual get evaluated by a physiatrist (most time the evaluation is funded by the state).
Various groups are responsible for the course development, delivery, and evaluation process, and within LESS is a large team entrusted with assisting students, academic staff, and other clients with content and technical support and maintenance. Several of these team members are those who are, unfortunately, receiving poor performance reviews on email communication. As an entirely online, distance education university, the support departments play a primary role in the student experience at MAU.
My understanding of Human Services is to help people who need additional help and guidence to move forward with their life. Sometimes people need help with external problems such as the loss of a job, the need for food or housing or for help getting out of a dangerous situation or mental and physical health crisis. The Human Services practitioner is a professional who acts as an agent to assist and or empower individulas, groups, families and communities to help them function more effectivly in all areas of life and improve living condition. Human Service professional will always advocate for their clients and will never give up on them and make sure to strive for the clients well being as long as the client want to change.
When I decided to train to become a professional school counselor, I knew I had a long road ahead. I am trained to be a teacher, a special education teacher to be specific, and though I will be able to use much of my past experience as a classroom teacher in my school counseling practice, I am aware that I will also need to see my students in a new way, a more holistic way. I will need to focus not only on what works in the classroom, but what works in order to motivate and support the students with whom I meet. It is essential for me to determine what will drive me, inspire me to be the best school counselor for both my school and students, therefore, I must determine my professional philosophy of education and school counseling and develop my beliefs, vision and mission statements.
One of the unique aspects of the Department of Child Development and Family Relations is that many of the department’s large core courses offer teaching assistant opportunities to undergraduate students. Teaching assistant opportunities are valuable for undergraduate students to decide whether to apply as a graduate teaching position, great addition to a resume, and for a letter of recommendation. From my teaching assistant experience, I was able to fully grasp the concepts of middle childhood development, form a new appreciation for professors and teaching assistants, and reflect on myself as a student. In addition, I had the opportunity to strengthen several essential skills such as organizational skills, leadership skills, and communication
Interning at DFCS has most certainly impacted my personal, professional, and academic goals. Before my internship, I knew I wanted to pursue my Master of Social Work after graduation and had some ideas about potential careers within the social work realm. My internship with DFCS has truly solidified my desire to pursue an MSW. While I have enjoyed my placement at DFCS, the internship has shown me that I don’t think DFCS is necessarily the agency I would like to work with after graduating with my masters. My work with DFCS (and seeing how many of our clients struggle with substance abuse) has solidified my thoughts that I would like to one day work as a substance abuse and mental health counselor.
What? Over the past semester, I have taken part in a service learning placement to better understand the diversity that occurs within the Hamilton community, where I will be doing various clinical placements in subsequent years in my nursing program. My particular placement was at an elementary school, Pauline Johnson Elementary School, where I spend three hours every week with a second-grade class. In my role as a service learner, I acted as a teacher 's assistant. During class time, I would go around and help various students with their work, encourage students to try their best, supervise during nutrition breaks and interact with students during music and gym classes.
Minghan Li Ms. Carmen Politics and International Relations 4B December 16, 2017 Is Online Education More Advantageous Than Traditional Education? As internet technologies advances, online courses rapidly grew in popularity. According a study of the Babson Survey Research Group, in 2014, there were more than 5.8 million students that are taking at least one online course in the US alone, which is approximately 28.4 percent of all enrolled students in the US (“Online Report Card: Tracking Online Education in the United States”). Although it is still in a quite early stage of development, online courses is said to offer the same, if not superior, education as on-campus courses. But is that really so?
As the online scene is rapidly prevailing in our everyday life, the traditional form of face to face learning is slowly shifting its practice towards online learning. Online courses are becoming a growing trend with a flexible way of functioning in respect to time, location and accessibility. However, even though it sounds appealing, students need to consider the advantages and features of face to face learning which cannot be found online. Traditional educationis based on and helps develop: communication skills through interaction, discipline and organization, as well as a distinct value that traditional degrees have for future career advancement. Those in favor of online learning would argue that communication online is possible and just as valuable of an interaction.
In this semester, I have been exposed to the subject of Introduction to Guidance and Counselling which is a new field of study for me. After I have received this lesson, I can relate my experiences with what I have learned. Not only that, I also have different perspective towards after I learned this subject. The aspects that I can relate my experiences and thoughts with are the differences between advice, guidance and counselling as well as the goals of counselling.
