Volunteering at Arlington Hill Library was the best experience I have done in my life. I got to teach immigrant students and watched them improve their English. I felt good because this will set a successful future for them when they get older. Also by teaching them this skill, they will get to build strong relationships with other people who speak English or other language. For instance, by building this relationship they will know how to communicate with people surrounding them. They will be able to know how to apply for college or scholarship in the future when they get into high school, which can help shape their life on what they want to become in the future. It was hard, but I really enjoy it because I got to hear stories from the senior who volunteers at KeyStone. Listening to their stories was touching and overwhelming. I’ve always thought that older people would never go out because they are weak and not strong enough to go and help out, but I was wrong. These seniors who volunteered at keystone are strong, and for them to give back their strength and helping the community was incredible to me. This changes my perspective on older people, and I want to be just like these seniors who volunteer and help the community. Volunteering at Keystone was hard, but I learned many things such as gaining knowledge of what the community needs, discovering the talent that change how much I’m worth to my community. Volunteering there helps me know what it feels like to be hungry and what it feels like to give to those in need. One time, one client and her kids came for food, the lady was crying because she didn’t know what to do since she came to the wrong food shelf.
