Native American culture can be a very educational and complex subject. Many things take place within the culture, such as traditions, ceremonies, language, singing, dancing and much more! Learning about my culture and other cultures has to be one of the most life-changing events for me and the ones close to me. My great-grandma has always dreamed of her grand-children dancing and carrying on our tradition. At first, it was a definite no for me. I like to believe that this knowledge shaped who I am today. It has helped me better understand myself and showed me that there’s other ways of communication and learning rather than sitting in a classroom. It has made me more open minded to learning and has made me appreciate my culture and ability to learn even more. Learning and practicing has given me motivation in other parts of my life as well. Dance is medicine. Not only entertainment and tradition, but also exercise for the soul. I’ve always been a child who hated getting involved in fitness, but this simple hobby has given me motivation in this area and now, I work out daily.
