The story All Summer in a Day written by Ray Bradbury in 1954, and directed by Ed Kaplans in 1982 has a lot of differences and similarities between the movie and the story versions. The story is originally about a girl named Margot, who moved to Venus after living on earth in Ohio. The sun on Venus comes out only every 7 years for about an hour. Margot loved the sun and believed that it would come out even though her classmates didn’t think it would. Her classmates then locked her in the closet ‘for only a little bit’ but as the clouds cleared to make room for the sun, they forgot about her.

In the end, they will suffer the consequences of their cruel actions, such as the feeling of guilt devouring them up. In the short story “All Summer in a Day”, Margot has seen the sun, but her classmates haven’t.
All Summer in A Day by Ray Bradbury is about how a little jealousy can turn into rage and reveals that children, along with adults, can be blinded by something so simple. The author of All Summer in A Day believes jealousy and bullying are the key emotions played in this short story. Bradbury claims that the main characters, Margot, is being bullied because she was Earth longer. Whereas, the other students don’t even remember Earth because of how early they all moved to Venus. First of all the author uses the rain to symbolize many things, while at the same time dreaming is used to symbolize hope, and the sun is a symbol portraying each child’s bright future. Similes are also extremely important as they show the desperate hope and need for a bright future. Furthermore with these types of author's craft Ray Bradbury uses repetition. However it does not go along with hope as well as the other pieces of author’s craft that have been mentioned previously.

Once you experience something of such great significance, it is hard to let that go and move on. This universal theme can be seen in both the song “Want You Back” by 5 Seconds of Summer, and the short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury. In “Want You Back” the band sings about a girl who they have left and will always want back. In “All Summer in a Day” the author tells about about students on Venus, who are in absence of the sun, and are grieving the loss of it too. In both of these selections, the band and the author uses imagery and repetition to convey the theme.
