I had the ability to speak and write in mandarin Chinese. From my point of view, even though I have achieved many successes back in to my history, but learning and writing in English language was one of the challenging things to
My proudest achievement would be getting into Cumberland International Early College and making it oy my senior year. The three years I have spent at Cumberland International have been very difficult because of many reasons such as being on the campus of Fayetteville State University, taking almost two years of high school in only two semesters, and being pushed to excel from the beginning in order to prepare to take full level college courses by our tenth grade year. Although I struggled during my time at CIECHS it was a truly amazing opportunity to be accepted as the third graduating class of its time. Being at a school that had only been running for two full years has both positive and negative aspects. We were changing the curriculum
Even before applying for work, I enrolled in the local college and began taking ESL courses. I was amazed at the golden opportunities that this country offered its’ students. I often hear the citizens complain about tuition fees and transportation costs, but I considered myself fortunate when I compared the costs with the colleges and universities at my homeland. I soon learned that I could obtain financial aid to cover my tuition and receive grants. I was given every opportunity to thrive academically and, I was ready to embrace each one of them with great joy and pleasure.
This has been my biggest accomplishment. Despite the obstacles against me, I have been able to learn a new language and perform well academically in comparison to students who are natives. My
The best thing I had accomplishment in high school is doing my 200 over hours in the Mercy Medical Hospital. Doing this was a big accomplishment because I learned how to communicate with the people in the community and also I had also learned new things on how to take care of the patients their to make them feel comfortable while they where their. How I earned these hours was by going once a week and doing four hours and I help people locate where they need to go and I also go to the floors and help them get their things ready when they are about to get discharged. Also, when I was able to work on the weekend and during my breaks I had done eight hours each day I took the extra hours to show that I am capable that I wanna help the people
The first few years of my life I spoke little to no English, because at home my parents only spoke their native language, Burmese. Once I started preschool, my eyes were exposed to a whole different world from the secluded apartment I was living in from the time I came to America. My parents were traditional people and didn’t stray into the “American Lifestyle” until a few years down the road. My parents were strict and used harsh PUNISHMENTS on me at a young age. They knew the only way to survive was a good education, something that they were unable to acquire in their home country.
My English grade went up from 1s and 2s. My overall grade went up to a 2.5. Additionally, in my school, we have a class called Crew. It’s one teacher with fifteen kids or less, and she helps us with the grades and communicate with the group so that you became comfortable in the group, and she was my crew leader. Looking back, I realized that if i had started high school with the same mentality that I ended it with, I would be more successful now and have much more options for my future.
Having a second language in your background is so impactful on one’s life, providing them with more skills. This is the 21st century and having this skill helps an individual be
I needed to show others that yes, I am not from this country, but I am capable of doing as good and if not better. Looking back, I can proudly say that my all my hard work ever since has paid off. Today, I am a thriving early college student. At the age of fourteen, I was accepted into an Early College High School that has allowed me to take dual credit courses since my freshman year of high school.
By the time I entered middle school, I had greatly improved my English speaking, reading, and writing. I learned to embrace my accent, and take pride in my Hispanic heritage. I still can't believe how much I have grown as a person in the last 9 years. The struggles that I endured growing up, strengthened and prepared me for the future challenges I am yet to face. I will be a first-generation college student next fall, and I know that I will be successful because I have always been able to overcome the obstacles I face.
AP Language and Composition is a course that I have aspired to take since the early days of my Freshman year of high school. Since then, I have been working towards this goal by improving my writing and reading comprehension. I should be a part of this course because of my passion for reading, my history of hard work and the opportunities that will open up for me. From a young age, I have developed a love for reading. Many of my favorite works have been found in the “Local History” section of my neighborhood library in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Back in high school, my writing mostly committed of timed exams and practice for International Baccalaureate exams so my grammar and organizing did not matter as much as the content and speed of my work. Therefore, I had to learn new types of writing techniques and become more careful and aware of my work. In some ways, I had to reinvent myself as a writer. The course made me analyze pieces and develop my own argument which is very different from content memorization that I did in high school. I think my growth is very evident in my final paper.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
Academic success to me is achieving good grades and understanding the material to get good grades. Academic success also means to have an good attendance. I already get mostly A’s and B’s, but I am not good at staying on top of things. To improve my academic success I will attend class more often, be more organized, pay attention in class, and not procrastinate.
Both accomplishments, especially my scores on the Advanced Placement exams, gave me a sense of self-confidence and faith in my ability to accomplish my goals that I had
