I am currently on a Foundation Diploma at the Basingstoke College of Technology where I have enjoyed exploring a range of subjects such as 3D design, fine art, photography and graphic design. My initial intent of studying on the foundation course was to gain an insight into what path I would like to follow but instead I found I was more drawn to the course because it offered me a greater sense of freedom and a way to express my individuality. So far the foundation has enabled me to experiment with different types of media, and has also helped developed my creative thinking. The initial development I found was the importance of the creative process and how gathering primary and secondary research can be so vital. Through my first project I found this approach to research was particularly apparent, it broke certain restrictions and helped me create a coherent outcome. I went to life drawing and observational skill sessions. I established a greater amount of mark-making techniques through this exploration and broke the use of traditional mediums. I worked voluntarily at a local chapel to create a banner and photography for their website. This initial experience in to this specialism allowed me to learn the values of independence, time management and the various graphic programmes used. After this project I committed myself into working with individuals to design leaflets and posters for upcoming events. I experienced a lot about the impact of type and image in enhancing visual communication. It was fulfilling to see my work in print, from the hand painted versions.
