There are around seven and a half billion people on earth. People of different race, religion and background. In our history and in present day it can be seen that not everyone gets along well. Many people argue over religion, others over race. Although we disagree over all these issues and ideas, there is one thing that everyone one can connect with. This is food. Food is a universal connector between people. It is something that everyone has, unfortunately some more than others. Different styles, techniques of cooking and many other things, make food and cooking an endless learning experience. When people taste food from different cultures they are educated on so much just from eating. Food plays a huge role to me and my family because of our journey. I was born in Slovakia and I grew up and still to this day eat Slovak food on a daily basis. As a family we came to the United States around 2005. Not knowing how to speak English, and with few money to spend. We were introduced to new American foods by our family that had already lived in the U.S prior to us. The jersey shore fish and NYC restaurants had largely different foods and even though some we didn’t like, we learned more and more about the new culture. North New Jersey and New York City are huge representations of the American melting pot. So many different cultures and backgrounds live in the same area. Those who get to experience something like this are very lucky, and I am very fortunate to have grown up here.
