The power was out as usual, and I had to keep myself occupied. Playing with toys was never really my style. Rather, taking things apart and rebuilding them, was always much fun. Since I was a little boy, I have always known I wanted to build things. My classmates and I were on an excursion to the Institute of Industrial Technology, Lagos, Nigeria. The institution was known for offering programs such as electrotechnics, electromechanics and mechatronics. As I entered their workshop, I witnessed the manufacturing of devices. It was everything I have always wanted to do. My teacher moderating the excursion then said, "I present to you, engineering." The only thought that ran through my head at that time was, "This is my field." On returning from the excursion, I kept imagining using my future state and resources to do something that would make the world better. There are superb facilities, such as the civil and mechanical engineering computer laboratory, and the software development laboratory. The professors are also distinguishable, having connections with organizations such as the IEEE, and ASME. As a student of Howard University's College of Engineering and Architecture, I would be able to take full advantage of the resources provided. Consequently, this would help me make my dreams a reality, and accomplish my goals. However, Howard University's College of Engineering and Architecture doesn’t just give me a unique chance of learning. Howard University itself offers me a chance to discover myself outside the classroom through extra-curricular activities. Howard University will help me develop my talents and skills for the purpose of contributing to the growth and development of underrepresented communities, and the global community as a
