To create an environment where these errors are a rare occurrence, all healthcare professionals must dedicate themselves to implementing QSEN's six core competencies each and every day. These professionals must also speak up when they see room for improvement in their workplace. Regardless of the healthcare setting or demographic of patients, safe outcomes are the purpose of providing patient-centered care. Since nurses are the largest subgroup of healthcare professionals, their ability to make strides towards improved medication administration is undeniable. As the nursing code of ethics states, nurses have the duty to protect the health and safety of those in their care (Winland-Brown, Lachman, O'Connor Swanson, 2015).

This paper is a case study reflection that needs to be applied and underpin the steps of safe prescribing, ethics, responsibility and legal of prescribing with respect to standards of Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). In this regard, I will follow the Driscoll (1994) Model of reflection, which is based on three questions that explains experiences, differences that are made, significance, and actions to continue professional development with respect to learning. Discussion Driscoll (1994) Model of reflection
Reflection has been strongly advocated by the English National Board for Nursing & Midwifery (1994), United Kingdom Central Council (UKCC) (1996), and a wealth of nursing literature over the past decade to improve nursing practice. Reflection is un doubted an important concept in nursing and since 1994, reflection has succeeded in stimulating debate and investigation, and influencing nursing education around the world. Reflection is an in-depth consideration of events or situations outside of one-self, solitary, or with critical support. Burnard (1995) argues that reflection has its roots in experiential learning, as it forms the second stage of the experiential learning cycle. Active reflection gives nurses the confidence in terms of clinical
The value of inter- and interprofessional collaborative practice as a DNP nurse and how it may impact my role. With the healthcare transformation occurring around the world, a partnership relationship between a doctor of nursing practice and doctor of philosophy-prepared nurses continues to develop. According to Ford, (2009), doctorate of nursing practice (DNP) plays an important role to play in the always changing health care system. According to the Institute of Medicine (IOM), the United States, nursing has the largest number of health care workers. With the current growth in health care, Advance practice nurses (APNs) will be taking up leadership roles, collaborating with other health care professionals to improve health care access and promote quality care.
Christian nurses are given the unique ability to provide compassionate and spiritual care to a variety of patients. The purpose of this paper is to explain my definition of nursing as a caring art, describe how Christian faith impacts caring, describe my personal philosophy of nursing while identifying my own personal values and beliefs, and discus how my beliefs impact my nursing practice. To me, nursing as an art of caring, is defined as caring for the whole person, building meaningful relationships, and providing compassionate care. Holistic nursing care involves healing a person physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I believe the art of nursing is embedded in the steps we take to address problems that are not simply physical.
1) I took responsibility for a full patient load during the last few weeks. I was responsible for doing a head-to-toe assessment, administering medications, and charting. I was responsible when contacting the necessary members of the interdisciplinary team, such as PT/OT, SW, the care home, the laboratory, or the MRP. I also spoke with family members in person and over the phone. I maintained patient confidentiality by not giving any identifying information over the phone, and stayed within my scope of practice, identifying to the family members that they would have to wait to speak to the physician to find out certain information.
Before starting this job, I never realized how much of a difference a CNA really could make. I understood the job duties and importance of nursing assistants, but I did not understand that they could make such an important impact on the lives of patients. Being aware that I could make a significant difference became a huge motivator for me. Every single shift, I put my whole effort forward to give the patients a reason to smile. One of the most rewarding days as a CNA came when I had a patient who had recently started showing signs of expressive aphasia.
My Personal Philosophy and Values of Nursing Nursing is proving care, support, and serve people who are in need. The purpose of nursing is to improve patient 's health condition to a better life. The professional nursing values I believe are things you can be taught and some you cannot. Nurses are special individuals who ultimately want to care for and help others as much as they can. I agree with all of these values and believe some I will need to work on myself such as competence, illness prevention and patient education. Others I believe I have based on my experience I have already had while caring for others. Some of the qualities I believe I have include: caring, compassion, dependability, empathy, focusing on the patient- defining quality of life, having a holistic patient centered care, kindness, openness to learning, respect for others their dignity and worth and sensitivity.
Reflective practice for nurses is when the individual critically thinks about their actions, thoughts and experiences and appropriately adjusts their practice to suit the healthcare system that rapidly changes every day. This critical thinking leads a person to increase their sense of self-awareness and their clinical competence will be improved (Bolton, 2010). During practice in healthcare, it is inevitable that you will experience problematic interpersonal relationships that can affect the way you are practicing. It is important after experiencing issues in practice, that you reflect in order to not disrupt the best possible care you need to provide after you’ve been challenged (Daly, Speedy, & Jackson, 2014). Nurses are constantly required
Introduction This essay is a reflective piece of writing about the critical indecent of a medication error that occurred during my placement. It is a very concise piece of writing due to limited word count of 1500 words. Duke and Appleton (2000) did a literature review and devised a framework of critical reflection, which illustrates eight stages as compare to Gibbs’s (1998) reflective model that consist of six stages. I chose Gibbs reflective model not only it is easy to comprehend but also to illustrate a critical incident.
What does nursing mean to me? Nursing means helping people heal, meeting their needs while they are in your care, listening to concerns, protecting them from harm, and educating them how to care for themselves while treating them with dignity, compassion and respect. Nursing is giving of yourself to the care of people and community, while expecting nothing in return. It is having compassion for people and their health, being a humanitarian, and making sure patients receive the best care possible. Nurses must also deal with families of patients with gentleness and kindness, realizing they are going through a stressful situation also.
Hospitalized individuals are in their most vulnerable state and nurses highly impact these people’s well-being because of the nurses’ care. To do so, a nurse should have the right attributes and characteristics in order to provide an effective therapeutic care and build a relationship with the patients as well as the patient’s family. Being a prospective professional nurse, my own personal attributes and characteristics may resemble the qualities a professional nurse should possess in order to establish a therapeutic and trustful professional relationship with patients. The qualities involved are exhibiting a caring behavior when giving care, showcasing optimistic attitude and being able to communicate well with patients/clients.
