While reading this book I have encountered the differences that I have ignored most of my life. Considering that as per my knowledge they were all immigrants. While the author states how the differences are present when it comes to how many different immigrants exist. Knowing this information makes it so much clearer on how much this affects our society as a whole. Many people think that immigrants are only adults. People seem to forget the children that are dragged through this process. Some families make this process together while others do not. Some children will strive in the United States while others will end up in jail. Furthermore, the fourth biggest population of immigration comes from Canada. I was surprised to read that in the book. When I was twelve we left Chicago to live in Puerto Rico. The cultural shock was incredible. I did not know how to speak Spanish and everything was in Spanish. I still can remember wanting to watch “General Hospital” and putting my television on the counter to watch this and everyone laughing. There was no cable and no English channels. I thought I was being punished and have to live in a foreign country for no reason at all. I understood what was said, if the person did not speak fast. I had a very hard time acclimating to living in a new place and so many changes at once. The good thing we moved to a small town and everyone knew each other. There was a lot more family member that I did not know I had. This made the transition somewhat easier growing up with my mother’s side of the family.
