My Experience in WRIT 101 Imagine, you are halfway done with your last and final high school English class and realize you have never really understood the point of English class until now. In all my previous English classes I was so lost and never really understood anything my teachers taught me. I was always so anxious and nervous because I was afraid that everyone else would think I was dumb since I did not understand and know as much as them. Why are writing skills more important in today's workplace than ever before? I believe that writing skills have always been important, but now they are more demanding because in the field of work there is more and more communication and different means where we can communicate, almost immediately. the willingness to know how to express the thoughts through writing is a matter that we all must work.
Writing is a professional skill essential to be able to strive. (Mascle, 2013) Having great writing skills is an important asset to be able to thrive in the business world. Many people do not consider themselves writers, because they have jobs where they think that it is not a required for them to improve their writing skills. (Mascle, 2013)
Throughout the term there has been many writing assignments —big or small— that helped reflect my writing process or the process itself. In the beginning of the course I felt like I was an “ok” writer, but lacked some skills such as: organization, sentence variety, and vocabulary. Also, I did not like to write and had a feeling of dislike when forced to write. I felt like I improved on everything I wanted and was seen throughout the semester. I know how to organize my ideas, the worksheets given in class to work on sentence variety really helped, and vocabulary was built on some level.
Before I started my freshman year, I was terrified to take English composition. I knew that English composition was all about writing essays (no grammar tests, art projects, etc.), and I was a terrible writer. I always struggled to get an A on essays in high school. I struggled with coming up with topics, organization, and grammar. I had an extremely difficult time trying to just start my essay; the hook was always the hardest for me to come up with.
I have always found writing hard but now I enjoy it more. I 'm not going to lie and say that it 's easy for me because it 's hard. I get lost with my thoughts a lot. What I say sounds way better then when I put it down on a paper. I have been wanting to write a small book of something.
Subconsciously when writing a paper, I tend to always re-read information I already knew. Since this assignment was on the characters/ writing style of a short story, I had to make sure that enough information could be collected as well as summarized. For both of those factors, I had to be able to go back to the text and re-read the same parts to make sure that I get the right information. Not all people are like this, but for me honesty is a large part of everything for me, so I also need to be truthful when writing a paper or something similar. I cannot write everything I think and feel, it would take too long, so I must also keep track of the assignment and requirements.
I would say my writing skills are not the best but their okay. I get by which is all I can do and English being my not so favorite subject I feel like I’m learning more and more and I am definitely getting better. Even though sometimes I feel like I should do better then what I’ve done because my grades reflect the type of writer I am. The best time of day for me to write would be mainly at night attempting to write a paper or anything during the day for me just doesn’t work out, I feel like I’m almost never focused to be able to get it done in the day.
Nothing has brought so much creativity and frustration out of me quite like essays. I would focus most of my effort into the content and a minuscule effort for formatting as well as citation. I have found a new appreciation for MLA format, which helps convey a sense of professionalism and organization. Learning the basic building blocks of an essay have helped lay a solid foundation for our academic careers and beyond. Understanding and practice are the keys to executing flawless work, much of which I have Throughout my secondary education the process of researching was one of many restrictions and contradictions.
ENG-122 Reflective Essay My writing process has changed tremendously over the course of this class. I feel more accomplished, confident and I feel sometimes that my ideas and thoughts just come in to my mind out of nowhere and I start writing about anything now. I pay attention to my punctuation and grammar more as I have polished them more now, not only when I write but then others write as well. I am constantly looking for errors and I highly think this is helping me a lot in my career.
Writing essays and other types of posts has always been difficult for me. But, throughout this composition class, I have learned many interesting and new things about the different types of writing styles. When starting this class, I considered myself to be an average writer with run-of-the-mill vocabulary, ordinary sentence structure and typical finished products. This class has helped me greatly improve my writing skills in a variety of ways. I have learned multiple things by taking this class, such as new ways to approach writing and that there is much that I still need to learn about composition.
Writing has always been an issue but yet interesting subject of mine. As hard as I try and write essays, and papers I just can’t get the hang of writing. But after taking this class, I did learn different writing technique and improved my writing proficiency, material body of formatting, and how to uncovering and properly use sources. Through class exams, essays, and a research paper, I was able to learn new writing skills. Although I have learned a variety of things, my writing still needs improvement.
1.1 Introduction In today’s environment, the ownership is on us, as an individual to take responsibility for our own development, rather than expecting our organization to do it for us. The question, which always ponders over mind is does my personal skills suits to today’s dynamic world? If not, how do I move forward? Hence, the starting point is to introspect, retrospect and do an evaluation through self-assessment tools in order to know myself, strengths and limitations and my ability to perform in dynamic roles in the business environment.
