Reflection
In this semester, I succeeded in finishing several assignments and some in-class writing. During the writing process, I learned a lot about these different kinds of writing formats and realized my own weakness. As for the four essays that I wrote: summary and response paper, rhetorical analysis, argumentative essay and reflection essay, I’d like to introduce my past English learning experience first, then discuss each assignment individually and express my feelings and reflection.

The reason why I rank the argumentative essay first is because I needed to find out the opponent’s idea and rebut it with credible and logical reasons. I chose my topic, gun control in the United States; because I thought it was easy to find the argumentative points at first. However, when I began writing, I gradually felt it was hard to organize my ideas logically, which needed to be connected with the facts and data, to rebut others’ points. Also, since I have learned various rhetorical devices, I can use them to make my essay more persuasive and believable. When analyzing President Roosevelt’s Inaugural speech, I found I could bear the boring historical, political background, which was nearly impossible for me in the past.
