Starting the 2016 school year, I entered a college course as a struggling writer that was not sure how to properly comprehend and compose an essay for the correct topic that was chosen. My citations would be faulty or the paragraphs I created would not have a strong connection to my thesis statement. Throughout the years, the writing skills that I have obtained have not only been useful to me but have also developed greatly and for the better. I have clearly grown as a writer throughout the General Studies Writing 1120 (GSW 1120) class. This is evident through my adaptation within the required fields by using online scholarly resources, writing to numerous audiences while addressing opposing viewpoints, composing many styles of essay, collaborating with peers, …show more content…

A prime example that shows off this skill is my Presearch Essay. Within this essay, I had to locate eight different sources on the causes of mental illness and produce an essay showcasing these facts. This objective viewpoint provided an advantage when creating the paper, allowing me to focus on the sources and information within these articles, making it easier to formulate synonymous ideas between these sources. Throughout this year, my colleagues and I have participated in numerous peer edits to help fix and perfect the papers to their best potential, this skill is most effective with the Research Essay. Since this essay was set at a lengthy eight-page minimum, the outside opinions were incredibly useful, aiding in the search for minor mistakes and other potential writing styles. This proves that I am not only able to use these skills within the class, but that I have clearly perfected them and am ready to use these writing skills in real life
