We continue with Part Two of Sydney hockey “lifer” Blair Joseph who, for the majority of his 70-plus years, has held a deep passion for the game. Our focus last time was Joseph’s early days growing up on Sydney’s Townsend St. near the former Forum. We also looked back at his playing career that included successful stints with various teams including Kay’s Komets, the Cape Breton Post Bombers, the Modern Aluminum Flyers and the Sydney Millionaire Old timers. Today we’ll reminisce with Joseph about his long stretch behind the bench of numerous Cape Breton hockey teams. As well, we’ll touch on the short but sweet boxing career of the man also known as “Bearcat.”
Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson, is about a normal fourteen year old girl named Matilda Cook, who was working at the family’s coffee shop, living life in search of her identity. Matilda went through life always working and being lectured by her mother about right from wrong, what’s lady like and what’s not. She had a normal life, her family wasn’t the riches but she had everything she needed, until the an illness called yellow fever came to Philadelphia. When the fever hit people were leaving to other places with their family, but the rest who were too poor to pay for a wagon, or who already had the fever stayed in Philadelphia. One of the people who had caught the yellow fever was Mattie’s mother.
We took control of the game very quickly and scored in the first three minutes of the game. I was playing right wing which allows me to play both offense and defense. As I was chasing down the ball, an opposing player kicked the ball full force into my face. It knocked me off my feet and I hit the ground hard. I was dazed for a second, but I jumped back up and got back in the game.
In a split-second I am pulled out of my trance when I see two bodies collide on the floor almost like they were going down in slow motion. I wince slightly when I hear the sound of Alex’s elbow hitting the hard court. It was like a wood baseball bat snapping in half. Most of us look away because a bit of bone was peering out of his already bloody skin. Coach and some other players quickly assisted him to the ambulance, but right before they made it out the gym door Coach
When you fail to accomplish the goal that was a deep desire of yours, all you can do is sit there, thinking what could have possibly happened. I should have stretched more. I should have pushed harder. I should hydrated myself more. But in the end, I had to swallow my pride and accept the lost.
My forehead was numb at first, but then the pain was coming fast. According to people around me, a knee went to my face. I was getting back up because I thought the ref would continue the game, but the ref told me to stay down. As I was lying back down, I looked all around me and the players were kneeling down and crowd had their mouths open while they were standing up. The coach came and said, “Are you
“Why can’t we get into our freaking offense!?” This is all I really remember from Coach McKendrick at halftime last year against Niles North in what was a tough night for our basketball team. Prior to this, we beat New Trier at home and then went on the road and beat the pre-season unanimous vote to win conference, Highland Park, in our first conference game. Before the New Trier game, our game plan was simple: we were smaller, but faster, so we were going to run the court and make this is a fast pace game. We executed our gameplan, and we won.

I have been playing Ice Hockey for 12 years now, and I have loved every second of it. Well, almost every second, I’m kind of a sore loser. However, I still love the game. I love how in a game, one play can change the entire atmosphere of the game, whether its a goal that lights up the crowd, a hit that keeps the glass shaking, or a bad call by the ref that has the entire arena booing at the guy in stripes. But most of all, I love how the game has a way of comforting those who play it, like me.
In past ages, Agriculture was the main source of China economy. In 1949 People's Republic of China was found by the China Communist Party as they came into power. To stable on their own, leaders of the party decided to focus on the development of heavy industries as it is the only way to became stable on their own. Self coantained was imorpant at that time because of the Korean War and China's military issues with the National Party in Taiwan. China's economy was very poor at that time and imbalance in this its resources make it difficult to get good economy.
During my short life, I have not had many life altering experiences; however, one thing that has changed me for the better is playing hockey. Since I started playing hockey in eighth grade it has been something I have become passionate about for various reasons. One reason is my love for the game in general, and more specifically for playing goalie, the one position that holds the balance of the scoreboard. The second reason is being a part of a team. This is important to me because it gives a strong sense of purpose to the player.
Somehow, two quarters in and we were losing terribly but I had to let my team with a horrible fall to my head. In the beginning, I was unaware of injury to my head so I kept on playing till I felt dizzy and knew something was wrong. Even after my terrible fall, I wanted
You never really know the true value of something, until you almost loose it. Growing up I was always involved with competitive sports. I would always make the highest-level hockey team that I could for my age group. Hockey has always been something that I was naturally talented at. When I was fourteen I moved one 1,932 Km away from my family, friends, and home to play for a prestigious hockey academy.
There was a boy who went by the name jeffy he liked to play hockey and he was very good at it. He was about 5,10 had blonde hair with brown eyes, Jeffy was not the biggest kid he was pretty skinny. Everyday after school he would go to the Windom Arena and he would skate and practice playing hockey. One day after he was done skating he went upstairs to the dry land room and he was working on his clap bombs and and his top cheese snipes. When all of a sudden he heard a loud horn and a scream so he dropped his pucks and stick and quickly ran down stairs to see what was going on but when he arrived there was no one there.
As soon as I got the ball, I started to race down the court pounding the ball as I was dribbling. I squared up facing the hoop getting ready to take my shot. I raised my arm up, releasing the ball with my fingertip with poor form and arc. The ball went flying towards the hoop very fast. The sound of the net went swoosh
