I learn that it is most important to focus on children when in the classroom. I relax in my work by clean up in this class. Always be available to support children and maintain an overview of what is happening throughout the program. I’m aware that I can’t leave children unsupervised and can be somewhere that have one of the teacher staff can supervise me and the group. I show initiative to assist the teacher and children during activities or transitions.
I clearly state the learning and behavioral expectations for my class and I uphold them. Most importantly I make sure to create each lesson to meet the individual needs of every student, so that everyone is learning. For instance, when working on math I create a math warm up that caters to all of the needs of my students. One math worksheet will have images of coins and they have to count the coins and write the answer or use a number stamp to stamp the answer. Then they will have to skip count by 1’s writing themselves, circling the answer, or using a number stamp.
I have grown as an academic student in college and career readiness, as displayed through my English 101 class. This was my third college class on the campus of Los Angeles Mission College, so I thought I was prepared and ready. Yet in my English 101 class I had to come up with my own prompts for my essays and merely came into class to listen to lectures on the basics of English. This was the first class that the teacher did not give me the rules on what to do for the assignment, I had to come up with it myself. Professor Diaz-Cooper did not hand out How-To papers or grading rubrics - she expected us to know and acquire all this information on our own.
Welcome to all the teachers, administrators, peers, and families. Although I cannot believe it, my time at Lionville Middle School has surpassed. It seems like just yesterday I was wide-eyed and frightened standing at the front entrance with my friends from elementary, knowing nothing about the years ahead. I still remember my first thoughts of Lionville, which were luckily proven to be wrong, considering how horrific they were. My younger self believed the school would be a rushing whirlpool of responsibility and new people, filled with long eerie hallways I could not navigate through.

As I read “A Homemade Education” by Malcolm X, I grasped a better understanding of racism in America and felt fired up to continue fighting the unequal system we live in. Throughout my high school career, I read many different books about the history of racism and articles regarding modern day racism. I quickly found interest in the Black Lives Matter movement and I will continue to stand by it for the rest of my life.

When I interacted with children in the daycare, I learned that communication is one of the most important key because children should always feel comfortable speaking to their teachers about their problems and needs. Being able to communicate well with children, it will help me gain their trust and allow me to establish a connection with them. For instance, experiences with stubborn children taught me the arts of negotiating with them. I also realized that a class is more effective if every student feel like they are part of that group and is treated equally. They should not feel that one child is favored over the other.
When being around children have to be able to understand that they are wanting for someone to care for them and that can show them how to behave in a classroom and in different places that they go. In Mrs. Ashley classroom there are signs that gives children something to think about as they are going through the day in that classroom. Mrs. Ashley tells that when a child come to her room she have to see them with a smile or try to see why they are in a not good place as they are coming in the classroom to her. When talking to Mrs. Ashley there were things that she made a point about when it comes to the children in her classroom. The purpose of this essay is to acknowledge the conditions that impact upon Indigenous students’ education. This will be reached through analysis of the concepts of race, racism and whiteness in Australia. These key understandings of Indigenous students’ will be incorporated into my own critical pedagogy in order to demonstrate how I would teach for reconciliation in my classroom. The concepts of race, racism and whiteness have produced unequal outcomes for Indigenous students to a vast degree in Australian society. The term ‘race’ has a historical context in Australia that is not acknowledged highly enough.
I can consider my professional development experience in two parts: Before I became a teacher and after I became a teacher. During my teacher education at university I used to imagine myself as the teacher of that lesson and I used to try to draw some tips for my future job. I observed my teachers’ way of teaching, their rapport with students and their reactions. I always commented on why or why not they behave in that specific way and search for examples to be applied in my future job as a teacher. I believe that these observations provided me with some valuable and conclusive clues for my job.
Throughout my training, I implemented various strategies for engaging students in small groups and rigorous lessons. My role as a teacher is to communicate effectively, be respectful, and have self-worth and confidence. I did fear making wrong choices throughout this field experience. Being a teacher is a journey that has much to do with learning about yourself and being aware that what happens in your classroom reflects only on how are you with yourself. Teachers are not conscious that they project into students, and that affects how things go in the classroom. I believe the first characteristic of a good teacher is that he/ she is always willing to analyze his/her teaching performance. Second the teacher is humble enough to receive input about the development and application of techniques, learning from it and improving.
