On January 28th, 1879, Davin was appointed from the new Conservative government to solely investigate the commission on American industrial schools for native children.8 His report submitted on March 14th, 1879, suggested that day schools were ineffective due to the influence of wigwam overpowered the influence of the school.9 It states, “Little can be done with [adult Native People]. [They] can be taught to do little at farming, and at stock-raising, and to dress in a more civilized manner, but that is all. ”10
The Regulators, like the Sons of Liberty fought the corruption of the government during the years that lead up to the American Revolution. However, unlike the Sons of Liberty, the Regulators did not use violence to get their points across. They resorted to removing corrupt government officials and electing their own leaders into office. From the very beginning, the Piedmont backcountry farmers from North Carolina suffered enormous opposition from the wealthy elites, as well as the Governor of North Carolina himself. It seemed that Governor William Tryon made it his goal in life to disband the Regulators, and in the end he was successful.
This paper will review the first five chapters in J.R. Miller’s book Shingwauk’s Vision: A History of Native Residential Schools. These chapters examine the events that took place before residential schools were made, as well as looking into the historical context of Canada during this time period. The first chapter of the book explains the way in which indigenous communities educated their children before contact by the European settlers. The village of Paxton was located in eastern Pennsylvania. Paxton became a place of political and racial unrest during Pontiac’s Rebellion. Paxton was still part of the frontier until the 1760’s and was populated by Scots-Irish. They requested soldiers and weapons because of their vulnerability to attack. Their request was ignored because of the legislators who were Quakers.

Women had a hand in everything, Including education. The need for teachers rose along with the demand for higher education. With the population growing across the continent, public schools were vastly increasing, therefore the feminization of teaching had and did occur. I would advise to accept the promotion. Even though taking this promotion would bump him up to the next tax bracket, I would reassure my friend that because our tax code is marginalized, “you’ll never take home less than you earn” (Video Engager, 2016). A marginalized tax code guarantees that you only pay income tax on the amount of money that you make above the tax bracket that you are in. this assures that you will not take home less income because of a higher tax bracket.
Also, the children were able to make a mess, and not really worry about it. The children also had the freedom to create whatever they would like. The teachers were engaging the children by asking them what about their creations. The teacher also asked the children to create certain pictures, such as circles, squares, triangles, and letters. The teacher would ask the child these questions, only when they were no longer using their paintbrushes and the materials to draw images.
By providing a firm education, I can pave the road toward a bright future. Finally in conclusion, I know that I chose the field of education because, I know that as a teacher I must motivate, inspire, and encourage my students to strive for success. As an educator it is my responsibility to lift them up when they are down. I believe the purpose of education is to help students prepare for the real world by helping them become independent. The purpose of education is to create the “catalyst”, - the interest, the imagination, the self-confidence, the enthusiasm for further knowledge that helps a person grow beyond what they believe they can be. Education should help develop skills and knowledge, so students can be productive members of society. The more knowledge you have, the more opportunities you have in life. I think back to my childhood and the teachers that made an impact in my life. I want to be that catalyst for students.
