France, a country of rich history, culture and beauty. Although France has not always been the poised country, its culture and public perception has shaped our perception of France into a world apart from our own. Outsiders sometimes seem to forget what France really was 300 years ago, but the story stays alive in the hearts of French natives. The “Reign Of Terror” is one of France’s most significant events because it corrupted Frances rights and shaped France into the strong nation it is today. Constant debate floats around in classrooms with the question “Is the “Reign Of Terror” justified?” I have formulated the opinion to believe that the Reign of Terror is not justified after analyzing seven documents. A) These were thought as natural given rights, but to the “Committee of Public Safety” this was complete and utter nonsense. The right of security was exploited when Robespierre gave a speech to the National Convention stating that, “Social protection is due only peaceful citizens, there are no citizens in the Republic but the Republicans.” (Doc. G) This excerpt presents that Robespierre only cared about the people who were blindsided by his ludacris actions and really though revoking rights would bring France prosperity and balance. Article 10 in the “Declaration of the Rights of Man” states, “No one should be silenced on account of his opinions, including his religious views.” (Doc. A) In a letter written to the “National Convection” by a local government official in West France it states that crowds were forming and rioting in Vendee and the crowds did not seem to cease or downsize, even with the public troops involved. The letter states, “…The council meanwhile has taken strong measures, and at this moment there are three thousand national guardsmen in the region to establish order…six patriots have already fallen victim to this ramble, but at least forty of their number were killed.” (Doc.
