The holocaust is a horrifying event that all started when Germany appointed Adolph Hitler as their leader. The Holocaust began around January 30, 1933 and approximately lasted through May 8, 1945 (History 1). The holocaust affected millions of Jews and people all around the world in different ways for twelve years. This event was very traumatic and was a big eye opener on how cruel humans can be to each other. The Holocaust hasn’t always been known as the Holocaust. It was Hitler’s plan and he called it the “Final Solution”. The Final Solution all started because Hitler was mad at the Jews, he said it was the Jews fault that Germany had lost World War I (Spielvogel 728). Nazis controlled the concentration camps, but at first they had to come up with other things. At the Beginning of 1942, Jews from Germany and countries controlled by Germany rounded up all of the Jews. They all got put onto a train and got shipped to Poland. There were six centers built for the Jews to be placed. The largest center that got built was Auschwitz, about thirty percent of the arrivals got sent to it. Many of the Jews got sent to the labor camps and worked or starved to death, the rest got sent to gas chambers. Some inmates got subjected to be tested for medical experiments that Hitler had interests in. (Spielvogel 728). By the spring of 1942 The death camps were in full go time. By that summer even more Jews were getting shipped from other countries like, France, Belgium, and Holland. Approximately 3 million of them died in these death camps. (Spielvogel). These camps weren’t very secured because some people had the chance to escape, some got to start over with their lives, but most got caught and shot at an instant. A girl named Helga was in the same camp as her father, and grandmother. She has a plan to escape and become a maid in England. She did escape successfully, but never heard from her father and grandmother ever again. (Giddens 40+41). Gerdda Weismann Klein, she was another successful teen that got to live to tell her story. World War II compared to World War I has a big difference, WWII had several more issues and countries involved. World War II was much more wide spread and covered most of the world (Spielvogel 722). The total amount killed from World War II was almost 20 million, way more than World War I, sadly many of the victims where children (Spielvogel 722). In 1942 the Nazis took over most of the continental part of Europe. Great Britain was one of the countries involved in the war, German air force bombed them and the British called it the “Blitz”. The bombing got bad that Great Britain decided to move there women and children to Canada and America (Spielvogel 724). Things got worse when the British thought they could bomb Germany, the affect from the bombings were shortages of food, clothes, and fuel (Spielvogel 725). The Germans had almost all of the control, the invasion on the Soviet Union made them more confident that ever. They started plans called the German colonization. Hitler planned a project to make the, Poles, Ukrainians, and the Russians, all become slave labors (Spielvogel 727). At the beginning of 1943, the battel turned against, Germany, Italy, and Great Britain. Eventually the Germans took control over Italy and occupied it also (Spielvogel 731).
