In Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde , the dualities reflected of the Victorian times. Where people lived a double-life because the norms society set for honourable individuals to comply with were to high for people to come after . Double standards created along of this and fuelled the deception of the middle-class . As society allowed , they lived superficially respectable , moral lives . Alternatively , at night , when doors was closed , that was when people started showing who they really were , showing their dark and desires from the deepest part of their mind .

Jekyll found a way to separate his good side from his darker side, by transforming himself into a monster free of consciences. But he later found that he was turning into more and more into Mr Hyde. He started turning into Mr. Hyde in random places, the transformations got worse and worse.
The original story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a novel called “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” written by Robert Louis Stevenson. In 2003, they released a fantastic movie directed by Maurice Phillips and produced by John Hannah. Some of the main characters in this movie include Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde played by John Hannah, Mabel Mercer played by Kellie Shirley, and Ned played by Jack Blumenau. Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a drama/thriller about a scientist (Dr. Jekyll) whose mad experiment goes wrong. He wants to figure out how to separate the good from the evil in a human’s soul and what happens to him while it’s in his system.
In Robert Stevenson’s novella ‘The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde’, Dr Jekyll transforms from the handsome “well-made” scientist into the devilish, sinful and villainous Mr Hyde. Similarly, in William Shakespeare’s tragedy ‘Macbeth’, Macbeth transforms from a patriotic hero into a malevolent tyrant. By comparing the thoughts, intentions and actions within the protagonists’ behaviour, it is clear that both Stevenson and Shakespeare present the theme of change from good to evil within their stories. At the start of ‘Macbeth’, Macbeth is presented as a valiant, noble character, but Shakespeare uses varied language to foreshadow his downfall.
Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Anybody who thinks that he or she knows another person, even the closest one, inside out is mistaken. As proverb saying: “Every bean has its black”; in other words, everyone has secrets but some secrets are darker than others. Dr. Jekyll loved being a good and decent man and was ashamed of “the evil side of his nature” (Stevenson 52), so he decided to purify himself from evil-self. Unfortunately, Dr. Jekyll failed to do so; the darkness of his evil nature completely overpowered the light of his kind heart.
The repression of homicidal desires, as shown by Dr.Jekyll, forges a plight for himself when he creates a distinctive criminal persona, such as Mr.Hyde. As Hyde’s immoral deeds of Jekyll’s desires continue, Jekyll is persistent of that these deeds where not of his own, but Hyde’s, “It was Hyde after all, and Hyde alone, that was guilty… he would even make haste where it was possible, to undo the evil done by Hyde” and also that, “Henry Jekyll stood at times aghast before the acts of Edward Hyde”(46). As Jekyll stood unaccountable in his eyes for the despicable actions of Mr.Hyde, he would also do his best to undo the wrong done. When Dr.Jekyll began to repress his manic desire for death, Mr. Hyde, Jekyll’s persona was made to become his criminal
The novel begins with a lawyer named Mr. Utterson going for a walk with his friend and relative Mr. Enfield. They walk past a door, which somehow prompts Mr. Enfield to tell a sad story: a brute of a man knocked down a little girl, everyone yelled at the rude man, and the man offered to pay a lot of money. He then disappeared through the door, only to return with a large check drawn from Dr. Jekyll’s bank account. The nasty man? None other than Mr. Hyde.
One of the key differences in how these works show the struggle between good and evil is that the main conflict throughout Dracula is a completely different type altogether compared to Jekyll and Hyde. In Dracula, most of the conflict is person-vs-person interaction, while in Jekyll and Hyde, most of the conflict is internal between the personalities of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Near the beginning of Dracula, once Jonathan Harker realizes that Count Dracula is not a normal nobleman, he attempts to convince the Count to allow him to leave earlier than scheduled. The Count appears to comply, leading Jonathan to the door and exercising his ever formal, unnerving diction. This ruse successfully convinces Jonathan and he walks to the door.

The story is influenced by a mysterious and frightening dream Stevenson had, from this he developed the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. This novella is a representation of the battle of good versus evil that one can acquire with one’s self, Dr. Jekyll represents the good and Mr. Hyde represents the evil. Having a wicked side and a good side is challenging because if in distress or confusion, it is easier to become mean, it’s necessary to control these two sides.
In the novella, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Henry Jekyll had the belief that there were two sides to everyone. One side being good. One side being evil. There is a purpose for the two coexisting.
There are a number of differences and few similarities between the characters of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The differences between the two men are mental, physical and moral. They are two separate personalities. Dr. Jekyll is an extremely intelligent and sane man with many good friends, known for his kindness and affectionate nature. On the other hand, Mr. Hyde is less educated, detestable and a loner.
Firstly Stevenson presents Mr Hyde as a Frightening outsider through the portrayal of an impulsive unevolved person. This creates a sense of a frightening outsider as Hyde’s attitude was unfit for his society. Hyde is often described through animalistic imagery to emphasise how he is unfit in the society and how unevolved he is and to create the image of a troglodyte a word by which he is described in in the Carew murder case.
Through the character of Dr Jekyll character, we can see an unwillingness of entering the social order, which is made evident by Mr. Hyde, his direct opposite. At first he drinks the drug in order to enter into a realm that has no social mores, no laws from the father to follow. He assumes a Mr. Hyde, the new identity so as to test those boundaries. Through the “monster culture” we can establish that Dr Jekylls unconscious desire is personified in Mr. Hyde, and this will enable us to see Dr Jekyll as the illusion of reality and he was not whosever he claimed to be. He possessed unconscious desires which he had to let out.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are two completely different people. They are different, not just in physical appearance, but also in behaviors. Differences in characters are important especially if there are two main characters or two characters that are mentioned as much as these two are. So, this is not a surprise that these two characters are different in almost everyway. To start, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde are different in physical appearance.
