I found it very interesting to see the ties between The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and both our previous discussions on cultural hybridity, and more specifically the Cohen monster theory. As we talked about in class Dr Jekyll seems to struggle coming to terms with the duality of human nurture. He becomes infatuated with the idea that he can separate the good and evil parts of himself, and thus escape the societal pressure to suppress the evil parts of oneself. By creating an alter ego, he can live peacefully most of the time, only embracing the good parts of himself and thus he fits into societies expectations of how one should act.
