Relationship - the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected. This is a theme that you see a lot in John Steinbeck’s, Of Mice and Men. Relationships are a big part of this storyline and really affected all of the characters whether that meant in a good way or a bad way. From good relationships to toxic relationships, there are countless examples. Even if the connections were bad, they were still an important asset to the storyline and to the characters in the novel. As you can imagine, things were a little different for him because of his skin color. Because he is black, he has to live separately from the other workers. Because of that, he really doesn’t get the chance to ever make a positive relationship. When with Lennie on page 68, he talked about how if he ever wanted to do anything with the other workers, he wouldn’t get the opportunity to do so. On the contrary, to me, he didn’t really sound like he wanted any friends. When Lennie came to his room, he kept on going on and on about he had no right to be there. At the same time, I think that that defensive personality comes from a place of loneliness. This example of a relationship shows more of a situation when someone doesn’t really have a good bond with others. In his case, he has a reason, but that shouldn’t stop him from trying to make friends if they reach out to him. This shows that it is important for you to make relationships, and to maybe step out of your comfort
