Grey’s Anatomy is a TV drama series that focuses on the lives of surgeons working at Seattle Grace Hospital, later named Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital, in Seattle, Washington. However, one character’s life is highlighted throughout the series and her name is Meredith Grey, the daughter of late famous surgeon, Ellis Grey. Meredith is seen going through many struggles trying to keep steady work relationships, friendships, and even try to keep her marriage from falling apart. At the end of the day, Meredith Grey has amazing people she made friends with during her intern year like Cristina Yang, Alex Karev, George O’ Malley, and Izzie Stephens. However, relationships pose a threat to her career. Cristina met her first husband, Richard Burke, after they had a fling going on for a while that soon developed into feelings for Dr. Burke. However, Cristina thought they weren’t at a serious level in their “relationship.” That is until Cristina found out she was pregnant and didn’t bother to mention to Burke about it. Sadly, after she took a run in the park and fainted in Dr. Burke’s operating room, she was forced to get an abortion. However, it seemed as if Cristina didn’t regret the abortion because she was so dedicated to her career, that she felt as if bringing a child into this world wouldn’t be fair to the child because she would be so pre-occupied with her job. This would be one of the reasons Dr. Burke leaves Cristina at the altar at their wedding, and the other reason being that Burke sees that Cristina doesn’t like the idea of the relationship and wants her to be happy with her career. This comparable situation arises with her second husband Owen Hunt, who she initially started to have a fling with at first. They were colleagues at first and then fell in love. However, Cristina was pregnant again and got another abortion technically without Owen’s decision kept in mind. Although she knew Owen would be happy with a child, she ultimately kept what was best for herself and put her career first again. This is also another reason why her relationship fell apart with Owen because as other problems arise, Owen thought they wouldn’t even be present in the first place if they had their child. Ultimately in the end, what caused Cristina to have these deteriorating relationships is her willpower and dedication to her job and not having a child be miserable and not seeing their mom all the
