In the novel, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are two rival groups: the Greasers and the Socs. The Greasers are the poor kids from the east-side and the Socs are the rich kids from the west-side.(c.1,p.2) The book talks a lot about the different relationships between characters. Ponyboy Curtis and Darrel Curtis (also known as Pony and Darry) are brothers. Darry is Pony’s oldest brother. He is 20, tough, cool, and father-like to Pony because their parents passed away. Pony is smart, and he likes books and movies unlike most Greasers. Darry and Pony have a father/son-like relationship between each other. Darry treats Pony as if he was six and is always yelling at him.(c.1,p.2) For example, Pony and Johnny fell asleep in the lot after a movie.
