The chapters 1-5 of the Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, is about two gangs the greasers and the Socs, who are always causing trouble. In the greaser gang, the protagonist, Ponyboy, is always getting good grades and is the smartest in the gang. Dally is one of the members in the gang, Ponyboy 's brother, has been in jail multiple times. Sodapop is also Ponyboy’s brother. He works at a gas station.

The Outsiders is about the Greasers, a teen gang in Oklahoma who are rivals with the Socials, struggling to find their way in life. When Johnny and Ponyboy, two Greasers, get involved in a fight that results in the death of a Soc, they are forced to run away. Throughout the book, the Greasers are forced to overcome the challenges of their gang lifestyle. Above all, the Greasers’ violent ways of life are to blame for most of the consequences that they face in the book.

An example of Ponyboy almost maturing from the influence of Darry and Sodapop, is when their parents were killed in a car crash. In the book The Outsiders,by S.E Hinton I believe there are many great examples of friendship especially inside the gang of greasers. There were many good examples of friendship in this great book but in the end I choose to pick the friendship between Johnny and Ponyboy. Throughout this novel Ponyboy and Johnny stick with each other until the end. Throughout the novel there are numerous examples of how Ponyboy and Johnny help each other out and show why they are great friends. As I said in the introduction paragraph there are many examples of friendship throughout the novel with Johnny and Ponyboy.
Dally is seen as mean and a hood, but Ponyboy later realises he is gallant because of the he loves and saves Johnny 's life. Darry is has not been loving to Ponyboy, but Ponyboy comes to that Darry does everything for him and Soda and loves him. Sodapops happy cheery appearance has always made people think he has no problems, but inside he has his own. Peoples opinion on others affect them. They are only judge from that opinion.
