The notion of the importance of relationships have been clearly exemplified in the novel 'The Outsiders' by S.E. Hinton. Through important relationships, it can be clear that it can create other relationships, shape their individual and shape their identity. Relationships help to create new relationships which benefit them as they have the opportunity to meet more people. Futhermore, the individual is shaped through the interactions with each other and socialising. Although the relationships can shape thr individual, there may be restrictions that occur because of their identity. Relationships result in more relationships which leads to knowing more people. This is clearly evident through the intimate relationship of Johnny and Ponyboy, and also the weak relationship with Johnny and his mother. Johnny and Ponyboy's relationship unfortunately ended when Johnny died. However, before Johnny died, he said to Ponyboy "stay gold, Ponyboy, stay gold." The …show more content…

Randy and Cherry's identity as a soc restricts them from communicating with the greasers. Randy believes that not attending the rumble is a wise choice. This is evident when he states "greasers will still be greasers and socs will still be socs." The message that Randy is trying to say is that it does not matter who is victorious in the rumble as their social status will not change. Furthermore, Cherry is also being restricted from communicating with Ponyboy due to her identity. This is illustrated when she leaves and says "if i see you in the hall at school or someplace and dont say hi, it's not personal, or anything." The hesitant tone displays that she is willing to communicate with Ponyboy but because she is a soc, she is restricted from communicating.
