Religion is something that can be found all over the world. It’s talked about, sung about, and written about. So it makes sense for it to be found in many tales. One such tale being Beowulf: The story of a heroic man who fights a monster named Grendel. However, while most things are impacted by only one religion, Beowulf is impacted by two. Both Christian and Pagan beliefs merge throughout the story. Beowulf is a story heavily influenced by religion, with its Paganistic elements often giving way to more common Christian beliefs of the time. The religion in Beowulf is a fusion of Christianity and Paganism, two completely different ideals and belief sets. Because of the story time setting, the theme and ideas are meant to come across as mostly pagan. Within the story is a time where pagan beliefs were common and followed. But because the story was told in a time of Christianity, elements of that religion cross over to be found in its content as well.
