On Salesman we see sales people living their day, trying to sell working class people bibles. As an example of direct cinema, this documentary clearly is open for interpretation by the viewer. From one side we see the perspective of the sales people, which struggle to get a sale done and need to do their job to make ends meet. On the other side, we see their customers, clearly from middle class, who are reluctant to by a bible given their economical situations. Yet the dealers try to establish the need for religion for their customer to solve all other needs and gain an education.
