In Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain is very open to sharing his opinions on religion. He often points out the very common views on religion, through various characters. There are three main believers in this book. Twain is not very subtle when it comes to pointing these types of believers, he just mask them through different characters. Miss Watson is society’s perfect christian. She knows everything that has to do with the bible. Huck said, “Now she had got a start, and she went on and told me all about the good place. She said all a body would have to do there was to go around all day long with a harp and sing, forever and ever (Finn 3).” She tries to educate people on Christ, and make more followers. At one point, Huck disagreed with her about Heaven but decided not to mention it because it would just cause trouble. He has a faith, and knows what he believes in. Some of the stories can be a little blurry to him, but ultimately he knows who he follows. Jim and Huck are alike, in that they have pretty stable morals. Jim may not know the Bible as well as Miss Watson, but he does know what is morally right and what to believe. In chapter 14, Huck and Jim were having a conversation about King Solomon. They were dreaming about how great it would be to be a king, and have all the riches in the world. Huck mentions that he had a million wives. Jim replies saying “ En I reck’n de wives quarrels considable; en dat ‘crease de racket. Yit dey say Sollermun de wises’ man dat ever live’. I doan’ take no stock in dat.(80) ” He also mentioned that Solomon wasn’t very wise because he wanted to cut a baby in half.
