A personal and fundamental truth that I passionately believe in is that the presence of a God, or a supreme entity or entities is fabricated by the indigent, lost, and perturbed humans seeking solace in a world bereft of any purpose. Religion provides comfort when all else is falling apart. It represents order and function within a chaotic situation. I truly believe that God or religion is created by humans, either consciously or unconsciously, to explain perplexing events and to answer problematic moral dilemmas. For example, during the Middle Ages, religion was of utmost importance. People lived their life for God, to reach heaven and to escape hell. This was largely because of the absence of anything else. The Middle Ages were also known for the devastating Black Plague which decimated most of Europe. As there was a lack of scientific study, people were not aware that fleas were the reason for Europe’s sickness. So naturally, they explained the event using religion by believing that God was the reason of their suffering. Centuries later, it is now an established fact that rats and fleas caused the disease but during Middle Ages the only answer would be God. This was because people were lost, frightened, and confused and could only explain the event with their only option - God. Furthermore, when the word of God was being written in the Bible, the Quran, or the Bhagavad Gita; it was being written by humans who claimed to ‘hear’ or ‘see’ God. There is no proof or evidence of this being true. While it is certain that Moses, or Luke, or anyone else claiming to have heard God’s word might truly believe that God whispered in their ears, it is uncertain that God actually did.
