Rembrandt the Conspiracy of Claudius Civilis: Summary
In 1630, Amsterdam, Rembrandt was an in demand, beloved painter of the people. No had ever seen a painter like Rembrandt. He seemed to know exactly what his patrons wanted before even they did. He understood his rich clients in the image they wanted to project while also being a master manipulator of paint. Unlike other painters, he was able to look beyond the faces put on by his subjects to create art that tells the truth of the human condition.
At the young age of fourteen Rembrandt dropped out of school to become a painter. He is later talent scouted by Constantijn Huygens, the most influential patron in all of Holland. Huygens saw him as a diamond in the rough and thought he would be even better if he would venture to Italy. But Rembrandt was drawn to Amsterdam and the promise of the cities riches.

Rembrandt falls in love with his partners niece, Saskia van Uylenburg, an orphan blessed with a portion of her father's estate. She becomes his flower child and Rembrandt paints her so as often as he can. With the introduction of this new wealth from his marriage to Saskia Rembrandt becomes a shopaholic telling himself it is "all for art".
He was the most successful painter in all of Holland, no one could beat him in grasping exactly what the first generation of Amsterdam's patrons wanted. Living in a Protestant nation patrons wanted their paintings to show them off without making them show offs. Rembrandt understood perfectly with the money classes wanted because he wanted it to, he seemed to believe that this mutual admiration will go on
