This text is about important topics from the movies “desert flower” and “remember the Titans”. In the movies topics like culture, prejudice, integration, discrimination, status, segregation, and relationships are shown. Some of these topics will be discussed in this essay.
To start off, culture is important to many people. For example, in the movie “desert flower” we meet Waris Dirie who is from Somalia. She is escaping from her family because her mother is going to sell her in into marriage. She now lives in England where she met Marilyn. They come from two completely different cultures. In the movie “Remember the Titans” we meet coach Boone, who is a black male who become head coach on a football team for Virginia High School. The town was based on segregation. The white people hated the black people. Boone becomes the head coach to placate rising racial tensions and the fact that all other high schools are white only. Coach Yoast that was the head coach was not happy with that, neither are the players. Now that Boone is coach black people also get to join the team. It is a lot of tension between the black and white people. Boone takes them on a morning run to Gettysburg cemetery, where he holds an inspirational speech. After returning from football camp, Boone is told by a member of the school board that if he loses even a single game, he will be dismissed. That is probably because of all the hate from the parents and the town. After the camp, the players had become friends, and because of discrimination, the football captain gets broken up by his girlfriend just because he has become a good friend with a black football player. Boone and Yoast get to know each other and manage to work together. The players didn’t care about race anymore, they played football and were friends. They “defeated” the segregation and discrimination and they integrated together and become “brothers”.
