In Metamorphoses by Ovid, there is a reoccurring theme of revenge. Juno is often trying to punish the women who have relationships with Jupiter. There are several instances throughout Metamorphoses which depict Juno carrying out awful acts of abuse to the women that are shown affection by Jupiter. Though the relationships are not pursued just by the women, they are the ones who Juno blames for the love affairs. In these lines, Juno has learned the Semele is pregnant with Jupiter’s child. Juno believes that Semele does not deserve to be with Jupiter. Her appearance is not as pleasing as Juno’s appearance and Semele has too much confidence in herself. Juno seems to be jealous of the love that Semele gets from Jupiter and that she is carrying
