1. Title: Fahrenheit 451 Author: Ray Bradbury

2. Setting: The setting of the novel Fahrenheit 451 takes place after 2022, in a dystopian future in what was once North America. In the city that the novel takes place, most of the houses have walls made of televisions and the houses have a fireproof seal.

3. Main Characters: - Guy Montag - Guy Montag is the main character of the novel. Guy is a fireman whose job is to burn books and the houses in which they are hidden. He starts to think differently after meeting his neighbor Clarisse and he starts questioning his outlook on life and books.

“Go home and think of your first husband divorced and your second husband killed in a jet and your third husband blowing his brains out, go home and think of the dozen abortions you’ve had, go home and think of that and your damn Caesarean sections, too, and your children who hate your guts! Go home and think how it all happened and what did you ever do to stop it? Go home, go home!” he yelled. “Before I knock you down and kick you out the door!” Page 98 2. Another part of the book that had imagery that I remember was not even a major part of the novel. It was towards the end of the book when Montag and the group discuss the city and their past. The quote is important to me because I believe when the people put he fire out together, it represented the stopping of book burning by society.
Quote: “He began throwing dust and dirt in the fire. The other men helped, and Montag helped, and there, in the wilderness, the men all moved their hands, putting out the fire together.” Page …show more content…

Observations: I had mixed feeling about Fahrenheit 451, but for the most part I thought the novel was interesting. My favorite part of the book was the change of the character Guy Montag. I liked how in the book you could see the change in him as he started questioning all the things he originally believed after he began talking to Clarisse. I also liked how the book relates to the present day about how people care more about mind less entertainment over books and facts. I liked how similar the book was to the present because it means we have a chance to turn to books again instead of watching the movie. I loved how Fahrenheit 451 showed that with out books knowledge can not be passed on and people become superficial and care less about what matters. The thing I did not like about the book Fahrenheit 451 was how it was hard at times to understand what was going on in the book. At certain parts of the book I would get lost at what was going on. Also certain parts of the book were very bland and drawn out much longer than it should have been. I agree with the authors social commentary one hundred percent. I think the author was right about how people are turning to mindless entertainment more and more as people turn away from books. The author saw how people were disliking books more and more even in a time period when televisions were not even a major every day household item. The other part of the authors social commentary about government censorship I feel is applicable
