Once upon a time there was a young girl named Iris. Iris was born in a small village just outside the city of Athens; however, Iris was no ordinary young girl. She was known in all the villages, far and wide, for her indescribable beauty. Men would beg for her hand in marriage and present her with lavish gifts as beautiful as the maiden herself. Unfortunately for all the handsome young men that tried to win Iris’s heart, she was not interested in marriage; all that Iris cared about was nature. In her free time, Iris would sit outside, rain or shine, for days at a time, admiring the adverse beauty of the foliage around her. She did not care about all the men who wanted to be with her, she simply wanted to be left alone, in peace and quiet. Eventually, Iris began to grow sick and tired of her everyday life, so she prayed to Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty, and she asked her for a strange wish. …show more content…

She was the goddess of love, nobody had ever insulted her like that, so Aphrodite decided to place a curse on Iris. If Iris were going to wish for such a terrible fate, so be it; she would get exactly what she wanted. So Aphrodite granted the young maiden her wish, but she added her own personal twist.
