Film Response Essay The film Finding Neverland was an inspirational tale that shows the inspiration behind the story of Peter Pan. This film released in 2004 starring Johnny Depp follows a playwright who is spending his time with a family to gain inspiration for a new play. The film can be hard to follow because of the childish manner it has and just seems silly. The film cannot be taken seriously unless you see the message of the film. The film is conveying the message that even though one cannot stay young forever there is still a youth inside of us all. Never growing up is a main theme throughout the movie, and is depicted by all of the characters in the movie Finding Neverland. Sir James is a rather outgoing man who never really grew up, and he finds this inspiration with the Llewelyn Davies family. He creates this imaginative and magical place to recapture the many adventures he and the family had gone on. This is the inspiration of Neverland, a magical place where nobody has to grow up and reality and adventure can co-exist. The play Sir James writes is Peter Pan, by knowing the story of Peter Pan we can see the relations and how the family inspired the characters in the story. Sir James being the boy who never grew up would be Peter Pan. The mother Sylvia would have been Wendy, and how she was skeptical about magic and Neverland at first, but then sees and believes in Neverland in the end. The boys who would have been the lost boys living it up in the wild adventures they had with Peter Pan in Neverland. Even the Grandmother would have inspired Captain Hook and his gang of nasty pirates trying to stop the lost boys and Peter Pan’s many fun
