1495, three years after Columbus's discovery of the new world, Maximo Zamoria, a Spanish conquistador, set off to the Americas in search of gold and glory. Maximo gathered a crew of one hundred strong and well-trained men, along with his right hand man, Samuel. With the permission of the Spanish king, Maximo and his men gathered enough supplies for half a year of travel, and got the finest Spanish sailing vessel to set off for the new world.

The legend of the Virgen de Guadalupe has become a common symbol of hope to many incoming immigrants of Latin American countries. Don Quixote is the most unusual of all the epics that we have read thus far. The hero of the epic is Don Quixote but he is a man who is imitating the deeds of famous and heroic knights. While the other epics previously studied have heroes who are strong, physically fit men of noble birth, Don is a delusional 50 year old, low born noble from La Mancha, Spain. He read obsessively about chivalry and it is through his pursuit of reviving it that he attempts to protect damsels, widows and orphans. Unlike the other heros we have studied, Quixote becomes known throughout the land for his misadventures rather than his heroic deeds.
Faith is defined by Merriam-Webster as the “belief and trust in and loyalty to God; belief in the traditional doctrines of a religion; firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust.” Commonly, faith is noted as “believing without seeing.” Many people of faith, use the faith that they possess as a moral compass, a way to go about life. Faith becomes their reason to live. Nevertheless, one must recognise that there is a very fine line between insanity and faith.
