Jimmy Hoffa, union leader of the teamsters, mysteriously vanished on July 30, 1975 after meeting with alleged crime boss Buster Wortman and never to be seen again. After many failed attempts to locate Hoffa, it is still an open case. The moral of the story - never meet with the mob. One of the most famous leaders in the American history, disappeared while meeting with crime lord Buster Wortman (A & E 1). Now everyone is still wondering, what exactly happened to Jimmy Hoffa. He expanded the Unions membership and negotiated a better contract for his electors. In 1952, his hard work paid off and became the vice president. Five years later he won the presidency of the Teamsters
(A & E 3). Hoffa was the topic of many investigations for defrauding with the union´s pension funds; he managed to avoid persecutions for many years (Taylor 1). General Robert F. Kennedy kept a tab on Hoffa believing that he did. But he also advanced himself and his union assistance from organized crime because he brought all of the trucks together (Taylor 2).
1961, he scored one of his determining wins for union president (Taylor 2). Some of the drivers in North America were under one contract of Justice department which indicated Hoffa several times. March 1964, prosecution scored a victory against Hoffa; found guilty. Bribery and jury tampering in connection with his 1962 Federal trial for conspiracy (Taylor 3). Hoffa spent three years appealing all of his convictions being served a possible thirteen years in prison sentence in 1967 but commuted by president Richard Nixon in 1971 (Taylor 4).Nixon banned Hoffa from holding a leadership position in union until 1980.
