Who is John Boyne
John Boyne is an Irish born author, raised in Dublin. He has published 14 novels, nine for adults and five for younger readers. The most famous novel he wrote which most of us would know is, The Boy In The striped Pyjamas. This novel was a New York Times no. 1 best seller and was made into a feature film. The book sold more than six million copies worldwide. His novels are published in 48 different languages, bringing them to a much larger audience.
The early days
From an early age John had a keen interest in reading big literacy, he developed his interest of writing at the age of twelve. Studying literature in some of the most renowned colleges like Trinity College Dublin, and The University of East Anglia in Norwich, John set out on the path of being the great author he is today. When he started his writing career, he began with writing short stories and published around 70 of them. His debut story was entitled “Entertainments Jar”. John continued to write novels for his adult audience, but in 2006 he moved his interest to the younger audience and wrote what would become his biggest masterpiece “The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas”. On reading this book you may be forgiven for thinking it is an adult book because of the storyline and the insight you get into how WWII was seen from the eyes of these two innocent children whose families were from opposite sides of the war.It was highly criticised by the critics who claimed it was undermining the horrors of this time by fictionalising the facts to suit
