The Komodo dragon is a powerful lizard with a dangerous bite and skin with scales that are rough and bony to protect them. The Komodo dragon is a massive and scary predator. Komodo dragons live on only five islands in Southeastern Indonesia. The islands are volcanic and rugged and covered with grass and exotic plants. The Komodo dragon likes hot humid temperatures and will dig a burrow underground to sleep in at night to keep warm. The Komodo dragon will eat anything it can get its mouth on. Its diet consists of large Water Buffalo, Ponies, Horses, Deer, Wild Boar, Humans and other Komodo dragons. They will drink water from any nearby streams or rivers. The Komodo dragon is a very powerful lizard. It has a jaw that opens wide with teeth that are jagged for tearing flesh. Its mouth is covered in poisonous bacteria filled salvia, that makes its prey weak and sick. Its tongue is used as a tool for smelling and finding its prey. It has excellent vision and can see as far as 985 feet away. It has a long muscular tail and powerful claws. The Komodo dragon is a predator and only has two known enemies, humans and other Komodo dragons. Humans are killing the Komodo dragon into an endangered species. They are being killed by livestock owners, by the burning of the grasslands and the growing human population. The Komodo dragon’s body is designed for survival and success. It is the largest lizard and can grow to 10 feet long and weigh up to 300 pounds. It has muscular legs, strong/bony plated skin, a long powerful tail, a wide brutal jaw filled with poisonous saliva, excellent vision and a tongue that can smell its prey up to six miles away. The skin color of the Komodo dragon allows it to camouflage itself into its surroundings. Its sense of smell, vision and ability to move its head from side to side allows it to detect approaching danger. Adult Komodo dragons do not fear much. Baby Komodo dragons use several behaviors to protect themselves such as living in trees and covering themselves with poop to smell bad and not be detected by other Komodo dragons.
