The Civil War as noted by many historians as the First Great War was a huge growing pain for our country as a nation and of free people. As all wars are the cost is high and the weight is heavy. Civil War soldiers fought for something more than just manhood, duty, government, and their country. They fought for and against slavery, which for most soldiers was their primary motivation beyond defending their home. Slavery for many was more than just an institution, it was the fabric of their economic society that provided the wealth and opportunity to the South. Without slavery the South could not operate and prosper which made it impossible for the notion of emancipation. However, those in the North did not immediately rely on the institution of slavery in such dire manner.

The outcome of the war would define the type of country the U.S. would become for centuries to come. This war gave justice to two unanswered questions left undetermined by the revolution: would the United States strictly follow the ideas left upon the Declaration of Independence or fall as a whole country due to disagreements in beliefs. The American Civil War was one of the devastating wars that the world and the newly formed country of the United States had ever seen. It was one of the bloodiest wars that the country would see, even into modern times of the twenty first century as well. There were many turning points to the war that helped turn the tide of the war in the favor of the North to win eventually. The war had more casualties than any other war the United States had ever been in, so that goes to show how much both the North and the South were willing to give up to win one of the most important wars in US history. There were many battles that helped expose the advantages and disadvantages for both sides had during this costly war.
The Civil War was a great twist to America and revised the meanings of freedom for Americans from that point on because it solved the great issue of slavery. Freedom was never enjoyable for many due to the fact that African Americans were being kept as slaves because of their skin color. During the time before and during the Civil War many believed that the United States would never stay half slave, and half non-slave. Also, families fought and argued with each other because of their standing points about slavery. Plus, slavery was such an extravagant and passionate issue that it tore a whole government in half.
If someone 's life is taken away then their liberty and happiness is taken away, it also takes away the happiness of another person. If someone 's liberty is taken away away their happiness is taken away aswell, an example of a liberty being taken away would be when the native americans when they were forced off their land and
Freedom The United States of America is known as ‘The Land of the Free’. Most people have never thought about what it takes for us to have this freedom. The government and on a higher scale, God, grants us the privilege of freedom. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, citizens did not have freedom.
The Declaration Of Independence was an image all colonists wanted to live up to. They wanted all men equal, and the government to be fair. The American Revolution was a political upheaval that took place between 1765 and 1783.The Declaration stated all of this and the colonists said it would be. After securing enough votes for the passage, independence was voted for on July 2nd. The Declaration Of Independence, drafted largely by Thomas Jefferson, marked the formation of a new sovereign nation, which called itself the United States Of America.
Two Concepts of Liberty Summary of the essay: In this essay, the famous political theorist Isaiah Berlin tries to differentiate between the notions of positive liberty and negative liberty. Berlin briefly discusses the meaning of the word ‘freedom’. He says that a person is said to free when no man or body of men interferes with his activity. He makes reference to many philosophers in the essay, but there is more emphasis on the thoughts of J. S. Mill and Rousseau, the former being a firm advocate of negative liberty while the latter believes strongly in the ideals of positive liberty.
