Martin Luther King Jr. Essay “Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.” (Martin Luther King Jr., I have a Dream Speech). Martin Luther King Jr. was an African-American Baptist minister and civil rights activist who actively fought for racial equality. Dr. King advocated for non-violence activism in the late 1950s to 60s and helped accomplish the voting rights Act in 1965. Since Lincoln was president at the time of slavery's emancipation, King chose the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, as the venue for his "I Have a Dream" speech.
