The Goonies were in need for a miracle to save their homes before their last weekend was over, and Mikey built up enough poise to direct the others, telling them that they couldn’t give up; even though their adventure set them on the brink of death. This motif also reaches out to a larger statement about Western cultural ideals and values. A great ideal taken away from this film is the concept that everyone needs some sort of adventure in their childhood. Not every child may have experienced a journey as wicked as The Goonies’, but even the littlest of things, such as playing tag with friends or playing pretend, gives children the enjoyable memories they won’t forget as they grow older. In relation to the need for adventure, Western values also consist of enjoying the journey, not necessarily the goal itself.
Aging is a phenomena not only of the body, but of the mind as well. It is situational in practice, giving each journey into adulthood its own “thumbprint”. One’s trials and tribulations gain emotional weight as they are encountered, but the weight one holds at certain periods of time can differ according to their background. Chris’ character is used to demonstrate the idea that individuals may escape from the miserable aspects of their lives in order to stay happy. Through the course of this work, you witness the changes Chris undergoes, through the eyes of his six-year-old cousin Vanessa, which ultimately lead to his downfall.
Dreams, contrary to popular belief, are terrible. The best thing to do, is to stop chasing dreams because all dreams do is distract people from more important responsibilities. People spend their time chasing their dreams, but they don’t perform their day to day tasks they need to survive on their own. In the memoir, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, Jeannette’s mother, Rose Mary, has a dream of becoming an artist. Instead of getting a job to provide for her poverty stricken family, she decides to stay home and paint all day.
Growing up causes people to lose their innocence. When people are young, most think the world is a happy place that’s all sunshine and rainbows but when people grow up, they are faced with taxes and careers. In Ray Bradbury’s novel Fahrenheit 451, Montag meets someone who fills him with questions to the point where he sees that what he was living in wasn’t right. The same goes for Pleasantville and The Wood written by Bobulski. Both stories experience a change that makes the characters see everything in a different light.

Esperanza, in the House on Mango Street, struggles finding friends because genders norms in society and her responsibilities in her family. In the vignette “Boys and Girls”, Esperanza says,”“My brothers for example. They've got plenty to say to me and Nenny inside the house. But outside they can't be seen talking to girls”(#8). In the quote, Esperanza reveals one reason she doesn’t have friends is because of the gender norm in which boys do not talk to girls in public.

Quinnipiac University volleyball players and coach sued the school for outing the volleyball team, and replacing it with a competitive cheerleading program. The volleyball team claimed the schools action violated Title IX with a federal judge agreeing because cheerleading isn’t a sport.
