During the Holocaust 6 million members of the Jewish faith were ruthlessly slaughtered. The Holocaust was the worst genocide in recent history. The mass killings were outright disturbing. The memoir Night by Elie Wiesel depicts these horrors first hand inside the concentration camp Auschwitz. He graphically depicted the gruesome events that took place in his life. Such as the separation from his loved ones, relentless beatings, and the eventual death of his father. As a result the brutality, killings, and dehumanization efforts by the Germans make the Holocaust the worst genocide in recent history.

These crimes were shown in the quote “ I witnessed other hangings”(Page,60) This method for killing is agonizingly suspenseful that it caused unnecessary suffering. It was also used to intimidate the prisoners to behave. These hangings were used for the smallest crimes. War crimes were also committed in their cremation practices shown in the quote “poor devils you’re going to the crematory”(Page, 30). This horrific method for murder most certainly was one of worst ways they committed crimes against humanity. This method was burning people alive which was one of the most painful ways to die. Additionally, through this they committed a war crime because they cause excessive suffering. Unfortunately, the Germans most humane way to kill was shooting the prisoners. This was illustrated in the quote “if one is missing you will all be shot like dogs”(Page, 22). This was a horrific method because of the speed in which they could kill. This was a crime because they were shot for the slightest resistance. The crimes against humanity committed during the Holocaust were horrific.
