People believe that they can change their path or what is happening around them. But, most of the time one cannot. So, they end up with a realization of what is truly important; what they should be doing or how they should be acting.. There are simple things that can lead to the development of a character and their true morals in life. One cannot go about this development without an experience to help open their eyes. There are many things that contribute to the metamorphosis of a person. War can have a profound impact on a character´s values; additionally, overcoming a tragedy and an act of selflessness opens up the minds of characters and makes them realize their true values. War is very profound and unimaginable to people who have not witnessed it; however, it can change a person vastly. In the memoir Night by Elie Wiesel, a young boy was captured by the Nazis in WWII; he and his father were put in a concentration camp together. In the short story “Top Man” by James Ramsey Ullman a group of climbers were ascending up the tallest mountain; Kalpurtha. No one had ever reached the top. The protagonist, Osborn was not a cautious person; he just wanted to make it to the top. He did not care about others; he did what was best for him and not for the group.
