The most influential is Pablo Picasso and his paintings. “Les Demoiselles was the precursor of a new style called cubism” (395). Cubism was a new style of modern art. With the spread of technology and finding its’ way into the art realm, it produced a new style art called “Futurism”. Since the Modernism era was about expression away from tradition, this idea was the birth of “expressionism” in art.
Matisse owned a third of van Gogh’s paintings. Different from Picasso though, Matisse adored Gaugin’ flattening perspectives and ceramics. Furthermore, he shared Picasso and these older artists ' desire to draw on pre-modern arts. For Matisse, pre-modern arts meant Islamic, African and Byzantine art.
Reading Response 5: Individualism in Painting In the painting, Impression Sunrise, created by Claude Monet, Monet portrays ships and row boats leaving the docks of a harbor at dawn. Since this is an impressionist painting, Monet focus’ on the human “experience” or human “perception” (para.2). In order to convey this, Monet uses the technique of bland colors such as dull blues, greys, lifeless browns, and blacks. He uses these colors to show how he experiences or sees the day slowly waking up.
The impressionism movement has proven to be a very important time in history. It influenced the way art is generated and viewed today. The views and techniques utilized during this period have influenced the way individuals currently view the world. Impressionism laid its foundation in the artworld with its innovative ideas and techniques, the desire to rebel against what was recognized as art, as well as with its prominent artists.
