The French Army first established Fort Ticonderoga during the French and Indian War in northern New York between 1755 and 1757 as a preventative measure in anticipation of attacks on French settlements in the Champlain Valley (http://www.fortticonderoga.org/history-and-collections/timeline#). They built it on the western coast, along the southern straits of Lake Champlain, overlooking the lake and a waterway that was at that time a gateway between two great empires of France and Great Britain (Randall, 1990). The French first successfully defended the fort from the British in 1758 in the Battle of Carillon, (Carillon is the former name of Ticonderoga) but the British captured it the following year. The British moved their main center operations to Fort Crown Point soon after the fortification’s completion, but the British still maintained a small garrison at Fort Ticonderoga with elements of the 26th Regiment of Foot along with artillery pieces. However, by the time 1775 rolled around, the fort had fallen into disrepair.
Monopolies in America during the late nineteenth century held various effects on the nation’s economy. They increased the amount of jobs for the struggling, provided necessary capital, and introduced new inventions that are still used today. On the other hand, monopolies continued the spread of corruption in enterprise. The creation of monopolies brought forth multiple benefits for the country. Rockefeller stated that with monopolies came expansion of business.
Today June 19th 1865, the events at Owl Creek Bridge are proof that the North is unwilling to take separation as an answer. A man named Peyton Farquhar shot at the Northern soldiers. This man from the South somehow knew about our Union encampment. “He fired on our soldiers,”said an unnamed army Captian. “We caught him near our encampment at Owl Creek Bridge,”he said.
This message is of urgency. You are in grave danger Mr. Farquhar, do not travel to Owl Creek Bridge tonight. Your life depends on it. First of all, the gray-clad soldier that just visited your land is a Federal scout.

The name Redskins is seen as a derogatory and racial term traced back to the 18th century. It is found to be demeaning and offensive towards the Native Americans due to the history of the word. Some sources state that the term is in reference to when the Native Americans would paint their faces red, but others proclaim it's related to the scalping incidents. During the mid-19th century, authorities offered bounties for the scalps of Indians and referred to them as redskins. This issue has resurfaced once again as a dispute between the Washington Redskins and the Native Americans over the name of this certain National Football League team.
In the 16th century, landlords turned the farmland into grazing and pasture land for sheep, and closed off the common land to the people of England. This was known as the Enclosure Movement. Prior to the Enclosure Movement, the townsmen depended on the common land as a place they could take hay, wood, and many necessities from, so once this area was converted into pasture land, they struggled to find a way to support their livelihood. Raising sheep did not require as many men as farming did, so the majority of townsmen lost their jobs and therefore, their source of money. The Enclosure Movement resulted in lower class having to live out on the streets of England begging for food and money.
Santana Janis was by no means an atypical young teenager. Others described her as a “bright [and] outgoing” girl who liked horseback riding. Her community’s characteristics, however, were very different from that of a typical American town. The median household income in her hometown, Manderson, South Dakota, is less than half the U.S. average, and almost four-fifths of the town’s population live below the poverty line. This dysfunction affected Santana: she lived with as many as a dozen siblings and her grandfather in a dilapidated trailer.
The Difference of color use of red in “Red Sorghum” and “Raise the Red Lantern” There are numerous uses of red in "Red Sorghum" and " Raise the Red Lantern " to express the emotion or characteristics of the objects which related to the theme, but both effects seem different, that the red used in the "Red Sorghum" brings a full of excitement, while the other gives the audience a sense of chill. This difference stems from the association of the red itself, and applied to what things and the characteristics of the formation. This paper first analyzes the two selected films of the red objects, and then sum up their characteristics to explain the differences generated by them. Red sorghum is a wine abounded in Shibalipo and is an important clue to promote the development of the entire film plot.
I would not like to be Rose from Fences because of her family situation and her placement in society. It would be a horrible experience to give 18 years of your life to a man only for him to impregnate another woman. Rose is a great wife, but the way she is treated by Troy would not make me want to trade places with her. It would severely bother me to live in her time. The play takes place in 1950s Pittsburg, this was a difficult time for African Americans.

Fences is a play written by the playwright August Wilson, who dedicated himself to writing plays capturing what it was like to be an African American in the United States during every decade of the 20th century. Fences was a play that was specifically written to provide an outlook into the lives of African Americans in America during the 1950s, during the process of demarginalization. Each character of the novel provides a unique perspective to capture different aspects of the “African American Experience” during this time period. In Fences, it was very important to August Wilson to truly capture “The African American Experience” and he was able to do so through the portrayal of the Maxson family, with his representation of African Americans during the 1950s in Fences, and with the multiple perspectives of African Americans captured
