Being a martyr requires more than just a cause, it requires the individual to have strong beliefs for their religion, and then being killed due to those beliefs. Rineke Dijkstra is a renowned Dutch photographer who has been producing video portraits since 1996. Currently, she lives and works in Amsterdam. Her latest exhibition The Gymschool, St. Petersburg consists of a three channel video installation, which shows several Russian gymnasts practicing in St Petersburg studio as they were preparing for a major competition. Dijkstra came up with this idea because Russia is famous for their gymnastics. And she has been selected to participate in Manifesta in 2014, which is the European Biennial of Contemporary Art.

When you think of all of the Renaissance artists, who comes to your mind? You may consider Leonardo da Vinci or Michelangelo. I am positive that I, Peter Paul Rubens, am not on the top of your list. However, even though I am a lesser known figure, I play an important role in shaping the artistic views of our time.
